Signs That Your Vehicle Might Need Some Repairs To The Transmission

It is important to make sure that you are well aware of whether your transmission is in great shape. By knowing the following signs of transmission trouble, you will be able to get it into a transmission repair shop before it completely stops working.

Leaking Transmission

Do not make the mistake of assuming that it is completely normal for vehicles to eventually experience a transmission fluid leak. Simply continuing to pour more in will not solve the problem. Therefore, the moment you notice a transmission fluid leak is the moment you need to call a repair shop. The last thing you want to have happen is for that slow leak to suddenly become a major leak, as you could end up with a bone dry transmission before you know it. If you drive your vehicle with little to no transmission fluid in it, it is likely that you will completely destroy it.

Slipping Between Gears

Your vehicle shifts from low to high gear as you go down the road and steadily accelerate. This should be a smooth transition that you barely notice. Therefore, if you happen to notice that there is a feeling of slipping, or a delay, while accelerating in between the different gears, you most likely have a severe transmission problem. You might notice that over time, this slipping or delay will get more intense until one day it simply no longer works. You might also notice a delay when you are trying to go from park to drive, or from drive to reverse. This delay, which may be followed by a jerking motion as the vehicle finally kicks into the right gear, is a sign that the transmission is experiencing difficulty and needs to be repaired immediately by a trustworthy mechanic.

Loss Of Ability To Go Into Drive Or Reverse

An example of this would be that your vehicle is no longer able to go in reverse. You simply have park, neutral, and drive left. While a vehicle can also lose its ability to go into drive, it is usually the reverse function of the vehicle that is lost first. If you lose the ability to go into one gear, it may not be long before you lose the ability to go into another gear.

With all of those signs in mind, you should have no problem figuring out if you are dealing with a problematic transmission. Should you discover that this is the case, you will want to schedule an appointment with a transmission shop like S & A Transmission as soon as you can.
